What you will be able to do
On completing this unit.
- Apply beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy and justice to decisions about AI use, and explain why AI’s scale and speed raise the stakes without changing the principles.
- Decide what to disclose to a patient about AI involvement in their care, describing its capabilities honestly without overselling them or causing unnecessary alarm.
- Handle patient data in AI systems on a minimum-necessary basis, understanding the limits of de-identification and the difference between local and cloud-based tools.
- State the medico-legal position: AI has no legal agency, and your documented reasoning is what demonstrates appropriate use against the standard of care.
- Maintain professional integrity and clinical competence against the pull of over-delegation, including the judgment to decline AI where it does not belong.
Integrity defines safe use.
